Supporting IP Dense Mode Multicast Routing Protocols in WDM All-Optical Networks

چکیده
Recent developments in all-optical networking and wavelength division multiplexing technologies allow for the support of optical multicasting, a missing feature towards the optical Internet. In this paper we propose a protocol to construct source-rooted WDM multicast trees. The protocol works under dense mode multicast routing IP protocols and supports network nodes with different degrees of light splitting, wavelength conversion, and add/drop capabilities.

Supporting IP Dense Mode Multicast Routing in All-Optical Lambda-Switched Networks
We describe a source-rooted WDM multicast tree construction protocol to support IP dense mode multicast routing protocols in lambda-switched all-optical networks. Using a receiver-initiated approach, the protocol relies on a mechanism that collects information on the capabilities of WDM nodes. This mechanism provides receivers with sufficient information to setup WDM multicast trees in networks...

متن کاملOn fundamental issues in IP over WDM multicast
As WDM technology matures, IP over WDM multicast becomes a new challenging topic. Supporting multicast at the WDM layer provides additional advantages, but also raises many new issues that do not exist in IP multicast. For example, the limitation on the light splitting capability of switches is one major difficulty in WDM multicast, and in addition, the limitations on both the wavelength conver...
متن کاملWDM Multicasting in IP over WDM Networks
Supporting WDM multicasting in an IP over WDM network poses interesting problems because some WDM switches may be incapable of switching an incoming signal to more than one output interface. An approach to WDM multicasting based on wavelength-routing, which constructs a multicast forest for each multicast session so that multicast-incapable WDM switches do not need to multicast, was proposed an...
متن کاملIP Multicast Support in MPLS
Multicast support in a Multipro-tocol Label Switching (MPLS) network has yet to be deened. An MPLS network consists of label switching devices such as ATM. This document discusses both dense-mode and sparse-mode IP multicast within the context of MPLS networks. Unlike unicast routing, dense-mode multicast routing trees are established in a data-driven manner and it is not possible to topologica...
